Military History: Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, was the site of Military Camps in the late 19th century, in the 1st and 2nd World Wars and of an RAF training camp on Marquis Drive into the 1950s. Refugees from the 1956 Hungarian Revolution were housed in the closed RAF camp. A scale model of the 1st World War Belgian battlefield, Messines Ridge, will be based at the Marquis Drive Visitors’ Centre.
